Periodontal disease (gum disease) is a bacterial infection of the gums and bone caused by the bacteria found in dental plaque. If the plaque is allowed to remain and grow on the teeth, an inflammation of the gums called GINGIVITIS occurs. It is estimated gum disease affects 4 out of every 5 people.

If you have swollen, bleeding gums, you may have periodontal gum disease. It is best to seek an appointment with one of our Oral Health Therapists so that we can work with you to eliminate this menace in your mouth. Left untreated, gum disease can cause serious loss of teeth and bone, and it has recently been linked to heart disease and stroke as well as premature and low weight babies.
